Speedskates for Kids
If you want to roll fast, you need the right equipment: Our speed skates for kids combine low weight, precisely fitting shells, and high-quality wheels so young skaters can safely pick up speed – and have a lot of fun doing it.
Why special speed skates for kids?
Children’s feet are still growing, their joints are still developing, and their technique is constantly improving. Dedicated junior models take exactly that into account – in some cases with adjustable sizing, a higher cuff for added stability, and lighter components that won’t overwhelm young skaters.
What parents should look for when buying
- Fit & size adjustment: A secure fit without pressure points ensures optimal power transfer – with integrated size adjustment, the skate can often grow with your child over two to three shoe sizes. Important: Don’t buy skates much too big, as this reduces support inside the boot, compromises safety, and makes fast skating less enjoyable.
- Supportive construction: A mid-high, stiff cuff stabilizes the ankle and helps prevent twisting.
- Wheel setup: Younger children benefit from shorter 3-wheel frames (e.g. 3 × 90 mm) for agile handling; older talents move up to longer 4-wheel frames.
- Weight & stiffness: Carbon or fiberglass composite reduces overall weight without sacrificing torsional stiffness – essential for quick acceleration.
- Bearings & maintenance: Precision ABEC-7 / ILQ bearings roll more smoothly and can easily be upgraded to even better/faster Movemax bearings. Regular cleaning and oiling increase service life.
- Safety & protection: A helmet is absolutely mandatory, wrist guards are highly recommended, and elbow and knee pads are especially advisable for younger children. A separately mountable heel brake is rather uncommon on kids’ speed skates, but it can make braking easier for beginners if needed.
